Work Experience 8/2015 – 7/2018 Golden Apple Kindergarten (Chengdu) English teacher for 2- to 6-year-olds at one of the bigger kindergarten chains in Chengdu. Developed children’s English conversational ability through careful class planning, real-life activities, and gentle yet consistent classroom management. Also assisted in various translations for the school.
7/2013 – 8/2015 Ivy Group Multiple Intelligences Kindergarten (Chengdu) English teacher for 2- to 6-year-olds at a Singaporean-founded kindergarten in the Jianshe Road area. Also assisted in some translation and facilitation between boss and coworkers.
2/2011 – 6/2013 Guangya School Kindergarten (Chengdu) English teacher for 10-11 classes per day. Through my materials, games, stories, storybooks, music, other activities and the curriculum I developed, I helped the children form a good foundation in English while coming to enjoy learning English at the same time.
9/2010 – 4/2011 Chengdu Urban Rivers Association (Chengdu) Volunteer translator, interpreter and grant writer. I translated CURA’s book River Stories, reports related to city planning and clean rivers, and a past strategic plan for the organization, among other things.
4/2007 – 12/2010 Development Organization of Rural Sichuan (Hanyuan, Sichuan) Initially in charge of translating (newsletters, donor reports, publicity materials, grant application materials, etc.) and some interpreting. Later work also included project coordination in earthquake-relief projects, school fees support, a school library project and school facilities project. Also took on responsibility for external communication, website management and financial reporting. From June 2009 to Dec. 2010 I performed this job remotely and on a part-time basis.
9/2009 – 2/2010 and 5/2010 – 8/2010 LK, Inc. (Michigan, USA) Executive Assistant for LK Inc., an Asian restaurant chain. Wrote and edited business plan, cost projections, operating procedures and other materials for opening Passport Restaurant in Ann Arbor. Performed market research, loan application, permit application, bookkeeping and invoicing, translation, materials sourcing, etc. Also helped develop and market a company-customer networking website for local restaurants.
Education Northwestern University, BA in political science and international studies, graduated 2001. Classes included Chinese language study, Asian politics, Chinese history, German language, International Relations, and world history.
